4000 metre SPONSORED SWIM FOR HAITI
On Sunday 28th March 2010, Ted Philpott will be swimming 4000 metre at LeisureWorldBishopstown Pool to raise €4000 to take part in one of two
‘build-it-weeks’ that have been planned for April and October this year.
Ted Philpott travelled to Haiti last October as a Haven Volunteer where he took part in Haven’s Build-It-Week 2009. A total of 41 houses were built in one week, making a total of 200 built by Haven in 2009.
Following the recent earthquake, there is now a much greater need to build houses for the people in Haiti.
Haiti is 4000 miles from Ireland and each volunteer must raise €4000, hence where the 4000 metre came from for the swim.
Christine Moloney, CEO of LeisureWorld believes that “The work of Haven Partnership is important for the recovery and sustainability of the economy and basic lifestyle in Haiti and following the recent earthquake there is a much greater need for housing and temporary shelter for the devastated population of Port au Prince”. Following the tragedy that has unfolded Christine continued that “ LeisureWorld staff have been touched by recent footage from Haiti showing this devastation and we are delighted to be helping Ted Philpott and Haven Partnership in raising these much needed funds to help the people of Haiti ‘feel the difference;”
Sponsorships cards are available for anyone who wishes to help or you can donate online by going to the Haven website at www.havenpartnership.com and simply click on the donate button and nominate Ted Philpott as the volunteer. You can make donations at LeisureWorld where buckets have been placed at Reception.
Competition - A competition is being run where you pay an entry fee of €2 and guess the time it will take Ted to complete his 4000m swim – a two hour slot has been allocated. The winner will received a one year membership for LeisureWorld with other runner up prizes. Entry sheets are at reception in LeisureWorld Bishopstown.
